Voter Registration Requirements

To register to vote in Texas, you must:

• Be a United States citizen
• Be a resident of Hays County
• Be at least 18 years old (you can register at 17 years and 10 months)
• Not be a convicted felon (unless your sentence is completed, including any probation or parole)
• Not be declared mentally incapacitated by a court

How to Register

You can register to vote by:

1. Online: Visit the Texas Secretary of State website
2. By Mail: Download and complete a voter registration application and mail it to the Hays County Voter Registrar
3. In Person: Visit the Hays County Elections Office or pick up an application at various locations throughout the county

Important Dates

Voter registration applications must be received 30 days before an election to be eligible to vote in that election.
